Discipline is the key to Power

1. Tony used to work in Hong Kong for 6 months. Before I left, my teacher told me that discipline is the key to power. That’s right, in history, not once but many times happened that a big army which has no discipline was defeated by a disciplined army which is much smaller size. This case can be applied on business, where companies wanting to develop or exist considers “Discipline” as their guideline.

Germany made a perfect capitalism, and became leading country in Europe, Japanese people made Asian proud of their skin color, Korean people achieved great success that was called “daring exploits of Korean river”. All of these success is due to the strict discipline. This thing seems to be right in any society. Have you ever thought of making an appointment with Jack Ma, the owner of Alibaba or Mr. Warren Buffett and you think they will be late, don’t you? It’s no way! If you said 11h45 am, they are in front of you at 11h45 am.

In south-east Asia countries, everything is confusion, especially in controlling economy. People here are compliant, blended feelings with works, less disciplinary and easy-going. For example, when I worked in a basa fish company, I saw the workers there did not wash their hands after going to toilet. I told the manager that thing but he ignored and said that “Let them free”. He himself both worked and was always busy at texting messages with his lover. The old guard sat nodding all the time, and you need to hold the bell for a thousand years to let him know you are in front of the door. In working room, employees flirted together. Other time, after finishing the meeting, the manager invited me the lunch, but it took a long time for him to call his driver, who was keen on gambling more than his work. Tony was so amazed by this case, and then I asked him for the reasons; he smiled and said that they are colleagues, it’s no need to make difficult for him.

2. Everyone needs to build his life base before 30 years old. Discipline is “iron and steel” to build this base. The harder the base is, the stronger and higher the house is. It’s easy to understand.

The young people affording to build their base strongly need discipline. You plan to sleep at 11h pm, you should turn off the light at 11h pm, you plan to wake up at 5h am, you should do at the right time, you plan to do physical exercises, you should do it even which kinds of weather. The meal is for eating, not playing or doing homework, you should make it clear. When you have an appointment with your friends, you should not play the phone but talk, not message other one but look at your friends. Strict discipline is the key to succeeding yourself, you should never make you lazy and then let the phase “the next time” or “never mind” be your guideline. You don’t like smoking, you don’t smoke, no shopping means no shopping, you should not cheat at the exam, even when there are no supervisors. Learning is for your passion, your job, for yourself, it’s not for certificates, your parents or your teachers.

For the people who are managers, you should look for and roll out the red carpet for somebody who is disciplined. Just ignore who is beautiful, kind, knowledgeable but undisciplined. It is no meanings if they are good but undisciplined. If your new employee doesn’t concentrate on working but surfing internet or facebook or does something unrelatedly, let him 2 chances to change himself. If he has the third one, you should sack because it has already become his nature.

3. From your childhood, choose a good friend to play with. Say no with the person who has no discipline because you may be affected. Choose a good lover, who saves the words that they talk to you.

Everyone knows discipline is good but not all the people do it. Discipline is built by the cooperation among influences of family, influences of friends, influences of education and the most important thing is by yourself. It’s a long process and it takes times if anyone wants to change.
